Power Hall: The Law Family Gallery is due to reopen in 2025. Associate Curator for the Power Hall, Sibia Akhtar, takes us behind the scenes of some new displays focused on local people working with engines.
Over 140 years after the gantry outside of Power Hall was first built, visitors will be able to see it restored to its former glory in the lead up to the grand reopening of Power Hall in Summer 2025.
As part of our recently announced decarbonisation plan, £2.6 million of the funding received will be used to transform the Power Hall into a landmark symbol of the future, as well as of historic engineering.
Part of the vision for our new Power Hall gallery is bringing the historical engines into the 21st Century. How can we make these feats of engineering from decades ago relevant in our digital world?
Do you have an interesting story to tell about one of our working standing engines? If so, then we would love to hear from you to help us with our new Power Hall interpretation.
In this third update, Curator of Engineering and curatorial lead on the project, Sarah Baines, takes us on a journey through time to tell us more about this significant and much-loved place…
If you are coming to visit us over the next few months, you’re going to notice a lot of changes around the site and especially around the Power Hall building. Our second update looks at another milestone for the restoration of this iconic gallery.
While the Power Hall may be closed to the public, this doesn’t mean our team aren’t hard at work preparing the building for its major renovations starting this Autumn.
At our museum we’re incredibly lucky. Not only are we the caretakers of some amazing objects but of several unique buildings too.
