Now Manchester Science Festival has sadly come to a close, it’s time to look back on the most hilarious, impressive and mind-blowing social media moments of the festival’s eleven day run.
Tape was undoubtedly our most instagrammable event ever; we loved the astonishingly candid snaps of you immersed in the giant spider’s web and the, perhaps less candid, images of you sliding around in your socks. There were also many fantastic moments at our show-stopping special exhibition as robots of all shapes and sizes took over the Museum of Science and Industry, exploring our obsession with recreating ourselves in robot form, and what it truly means to be a human in a robotic world. Don’t worry if you missed it, you can still catch the exhibit in Manchester until 15 April 2018!
And so, without further ado, we have trawled through all your behind the scenes pictures, witty comments and suave selfies to bring you the best social media moment of #msf17…
Putting the “super” in superhuman
Our robots events were a roaring success – we had robots pulling the perfect pint, challenging humans to some hilarious dance offs, and even showing off their fitness skills:

Scientists do selfies
Tony Hassall asked the big questions at Tomorrow’s World Live, such as when will robots steal our jobs, can robots feel empathy and—most importantly—when will robots take our selfies for us…
Maybe one day, robots will take selfies for us… #mytomorrow @TWBBC pic.twitter.com/LPmNDrW69r

Science gets streetwise
Josh Award winner Jon Chase brought rap music and science together for a hip-hop weekender not to be missed. Definitely one of coolest science lectures I’ve ever had, we found this little clip on Twitter…
Amazing first bit of @orrtkuiper #msf17 rap. Boom! pic.twitter.com/LwH0aFBiRL

A raveolution in morning culture
Not much will get me out of bed at 6am, but Morning Gloryville was certainly worth it. All the fun of glitter, laughter yoga and a (completely sober) rave summed up in this video…

Can you hack it?
It was wonderful to host Hack Manchester, our epic 24 hour coding extravaganza testing the brightest and most brilliant coders from across the UK. The competition was tough, but the judges looked even tougher….
A slice of the action
What’s a nerd’s favourite food? Pi of course! Festival of the Spoken Nerd absolutely smashed their MSF show, fuelled by your recommendations of Manchester’s best pies:
A spooky sight
While directing the science festival is extremely hard work, we found this spooky snap of the fantastic festival director Antonio Benitez having some well-deserved fun. As one cheeky follower replied: nice costume Antonio, where did you get the glasses?

Dressed to impress
We have some wonderfully dedicated visitors here at the museum, but probably not quite as dedicated as this group of cosplayers! When they arrived at Tape in full Spiderman fancy dress, we had to share a picture!
So long MSF17…
And, finally, a huge shout out to our wonderful MSF17 producers, snapped here in front of Tape. Congratulations, go team!
